Not every household has access to a garage and garage prices can be high if you rent one that is not on your property. In addition it is a hassle travelling to and from the garage early in the mornings and late at night. Not to mention a safety concern. Even car insurance is cheaper for vehicles parked overnight in a garage and it can also be used for additional storage space.
What types of garage buildings are there?
Garages are constructed in various ways, in a similar but less complicated way, to houses. There are
flat roof garages, flat brick garages, steel garages and
metal garages. Their types are various, ranging from
integral garages, where the garage is attached to a house with a door leading directly from the garage to into the house; a
detached garage which should not need much explaining;
battery garage, where multiple cars are parked side by side with a door serving each car and also a
tandem garage, where one car is parked behind another. The tandem garage is great for saving space as the depth of the building is used rather than the width of land. However, due to each car being parked one behind the other, the first car in has to be the last car out. Also, it would be advisable to have a door at both ends to allow for an easy exit and entry.
Are garages expensive?
Garage prices will depend upon the quality of the garage doors and roof, as well as the building materials used. A
pre-cast concrete garage will be cheaper than a brick or block built garage but more durable than a wooden garage. The
cost of a garage can be as little as
£100 if one buys the materials and has the skill to construct the building, or up to
£10'000 for a high quality garage with lighting, doors, windows and a quality pitched roof. For an extravagant, multi car building, the cost could be much higher according to taste and requirements.
